When nonprofit boards struggle with racial dynamics and executive authority

Our nonprofit board is mostly white women and when we hired our first Black executive director, some board members keep questioning her decisions in ways they never did with previous directors, and I don't know how to address what feels like both racism and a power struggle without splitting the organization.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Power structures designed by one group often become sites of resistance when leadership changes hands across identity lines.
