When diverse teams struggle with performative versus lived approaches to decolonization

Our nonprofit team is supposed to be decolonizing our practices but half of us are white and have read all the books and the other half of us are from the communities we serve and we're all getting frustrated because the white people keep intellectualizing everything and those of us who live this stuff daily feel like we're being studied again. The meetings have gotten tense and we don't know how to bridge this gap.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group is discovering that shared political goals don't automatically create shared understanding when people bring fundamentally different relationships to the work.
