Our queer book club started as a safe space but now we're split between people who want to focus on joy and representation versus those of us who think we need to engage with harder political realities, and every book selection becomes a fight about what kind of space we're supposed to be. I don't want to lose this community but I also can't pretend that 'keeping things light' isn't a political choice too.
