When longtime queer friend groups develop different political orientations

Our queer friend group has been together for years but lately there's this weird tension where some of us have gotten more politically radical and others have moved toward being more assimilated, and we're not talking about it directly but it's showing up in every conversation about where to go, what events to support, even how we talk about our relationships. I don't want to lose these friendships but I also can't pretend these differences don't matter.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A community is fracturing along lines of radical versus assimilationist approaches to queer identity without directly addressing the underlying ideological divide.
