Our school board has three truth and reconciliation commissioners and we keep getting pulled in different directions by community pressure - some parents want us to focus on historical acknowledgment while others demand concrete policy changes and still others think we're going too far. We're supposed to be presenting unified recommendations but we're barely speaking to each other.
More people experience this than they realize.
Commissioners discover that community divisions about reconciliation goals create internal conflicts that threaten their ability to function collectively.
