When community spaces reproduce the exclusions they meant to solve

We started this community garden to bring the neighborhood together but it's mostly become a place where the longtime white residents socialize and the newer immigrant families stay on the edges, and our attempts to be more welcoming keep feeling forced and awkward.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A shared space created with inclusive intentions is perpetuating existing social divisions despite efforts to change the dynamic.
