Scenario

When adult children expect constant text availability from parents

My adult children expect me to be available on text all the time and respond immediately and I want to be a good parent but I also need some boundaries and when I don't respond quickly they assume something's wrong. We never established what healthy digital communication looks like as a family.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A family has not negotiated the difference between being available and being constantly accessible, creating anxiety on both sides.
