When family video calls feel forced and awkward across generations

My family does a weekly video call with my parents but my teenage kids clearly hate it and just sit there politely while my parents try to make conversation and everyone can feel the awkwardness but we all pretend it's fine. We want the kids to have a relationship with their grandparents but forcing digital family time might be making it worse and none of us knows how to change the dynamic.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Good intentions around connection can become obligations that defeat their own purpose.
