Our community group is trying to organize a remembrance event for something painful that happened locally decades ago, but we keep getting stuck because the people who were directly affected want different things from this acknowledgment than those of us who learned about it later, and we don't want to speak for others but we also don't want to do nothing.
More people experience this than they realize.
The responsibility to remember creates tension between those who lived history and those who inherited it.
