When family group chats replace individual relationships

Our family group chat has become the main way we stay connected but it's also where all our conflicts play out and nobody knows how to have a private conversation anymore because everything becomes a group discussion. We're more informed about each other's lives but less intimate and I don't know how to suggest we need other ways of connecting without seeming like I want less family involvement.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A family has collapsed all their varied relationship dynamics into a single digital channel, losing the nuanced intimacy that comes from different types of connection with different people.
