When parent and child drift apart during teenage years

My daughter and I used to talk about everything, but since she started high school she's become this stranger who barely looks up from her phone, and when I try to connect she acts like I'm invading her privacy just by asking how her day was. We're both hurting but from opposite sides of this distance that's opened up between us.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The natural process of adolescent individuation is creating a painful gulf that neither parent nor child knows how to bridge without losing themselves.
