How neurodivergent friend groups navigate masking and authenticity expectations

Our friend group has always been a safe space for all of us who are autistic, but lately there's been this unspoken tension about masking — some of us feel pressure to appear 'more normal' when we're together and others feel like that defeats the whole point of having neurodivergent friends. We don't know how to talk about it without fracturing what we've built.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group that formed around shared neurodivergent identity is discovering conflicting needs around performance, authenticity, and social comfort within their own community.
