How creative duos balance individual voice with collaborative identity

My bandmate and I write all our songs together but lately every melody I suggest gets reworked into something that sounds more like their solo work and every lyric they propose gets edited until it sounds like mine. We're both trying so hard to preserve the other person's contributions that we're erasing what makes each of us distinct.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Excessive consideration for each other's creative autonomy has produced a form of mutual artistic self-censorship.
