When personal trauma changes the dynamic of creative partnership

My bandmate and I write songs together and we've always been able to push each other into territory neither of us would explore alone, but since she went through her breakup six months ago, every song we start turns into something painful and cathartic. I want to support her process but I also feel like our music is becoming therapy instead of art, and I don't know how to say that without being cruel.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

One partner's healing process overwhelms the shared creative space, forcing the other to choose between compassion and artistic autonomy.
