When creative partners have conflicting visions for shared work

My writing partner and I started this novel because we both loved the premise but now we're realizing we have completely different ideas about what the emotional core should be. Every time we sit down to work, we're polite about it, but I can feel us both pulling the story in opposite directions and neither of us wants to be the one who gives up their vision.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two strong creative voices are discovering their fundamental artistic instincts are incompatible, creating a tender standoff where collaboration has become compromise.
