When writing partners have conflicting approaches to world-building and genre conventions

My writing partner and I started this novel with the same vision of magical realism but we keep defaulting to completely different approaches to world-building — she layers in the fantastical elements like they're inevitable extensions of reality while I keep wanting to explain and justify every departure from the real world. Every chapter we write together feels like we're pulling the story in opposite directions and neither of us knows how to bridge our instincts.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two creators must reconcile fundamentally different relationships to how story worlds should be constructed and presented to readers.
