When theater companies can't align on the emotional core of their production

Our theater company has this production that's been in development for six months and we all believe in the story but we cannot agree on the tone and every rehearsal feels like we're making three different plays simultaneously. The playwright wants it darker, the director keeps pushing for more humor, and those of us in the cast are just trying to figure out what we're actually supposed to be doing up there.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A shared story becomes fractured when each collaborator serves their own relationship to the material rather than discovering what the work itself demands.
