When reunion celebrations become social media performances

Our college friend reunion happens every summer and it used to be this amazing weekend of reconnecting but now it feels like everyone's performing their best life for social media and we spend more time taking group photos than actually talking. None of us have said anything but I can feel that we're all kind of disappointed afterwards, like we missed each other even though we were in the same place.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The desire to document the joy has replaced actually experiencing it, creating a celebration of the idea of friendship rather than friendship itself.
