When family game traditions don't survive growing up

Our family has always had this tradition of playing board games during holidays, but now that we're all adults it feels forced and awkward - the games we used to love feel childish, but when we try 'grown-up' games someone always gets frustrated or bored. Last Christmas we just sat there on our phones instead of playing anything and I think we're all pretending that's fine.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The bridges between childhood and adulthood sometimes collapse, leaving everyone stranded on opposite sides of shared memory.
