How families balance traditional farming knowledge with climate adaptation

Our family has this old apple orchard that's been passed down for generations, and every fall we have the same argument about whether to follow the traditional harvest timing our grandfather used or adapt to how the climate has shifted. My brother wants to stick with the old ways, I think we need to change, and meanwhile the apples are telling us something different every year.
