When family members with similar mental patterns struggle to support each other's contemplative practice

My brother and I both inherited our family's tendency toward rumination and negative thinking patterns, and we decided to work on cognitive restructuring together through meditation. But we keep falling into these sessions where we just reinforce each other's catastrophic thinking instead of actually observing it, and I'm realizing that having the same mental patterns doesn't automatically make us good meditation partners.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people sharing genetic predispositions toward difficult mental states are discovering that familiarity with the same struggles can become collusion rather than support.
