When parents disagree about gifted education approaches for their child

My daughter was identified as gifted in second grade and my husband and I have been fighting about what to do ever since — he wants to push for acceleration and specialized programs while I worry we're already losing her childhood to academic pressure, and meanwhile she's becoming anxious and perfectionist in ways that scare me. We can't seem to have a conversation about her education without it becoming about our own unresolved stuff around achievement and what we each needed as kids.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people are projecting their own educational wounds onto decisions about their child's development while the child absorbs the tension of their unresolved conflict.
