When couples from immigrant families struggle to find culturally competent therapy

My partner and I are both from immigrant families and we've been trying to find couples therapy, but every therapist we've met doesn't understand why we can't just 'set boundaries' with our parents about mental health - they don't get that in our cultures, family mental health isn't individual. We keep walking away from sessions feeling more misunderstood than when we started.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people are caught between their cultural understanding of mental health as collective and a therapeutic system designed around Western individualism.
