When study groups split along different achievement orientations

My study group for professional certification meets weekly but three of us are high achievers who overprepare and two others are more laid back and now there's this tension where nobody wants to say we have different goals but it's affecting everyone's learning. We all paid the same money but want different things.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A shared goal contains within it multiple incompatible approaches, forcing the group to choose between accommodation and effectiveness.
