When parent and child share mental health struggles

My teenage daughter and I are both dealing with depression and sometimes I can't tell if I'm modeling healthy coping for her or if we're just enabling each other's worst habits. When one of us is having a bad day it pulls the other down and I don't know how to break that cycle without abandoning her.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The line between empathetic connection and emotional enmeshment becomes dangerously unclear when both people are struggling.
