Scenario

When parent and child both struggle with mental health

My teenage daughter and I are both dealing with depression and we keep trying to help each other but half the time we end up in this spiral where her bad day triggers mine and vice versa. We love each other fiercely but I'm starting to wonder if we need some kind of boundary that doesn't feel like abandonment.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The desire to heal together becomes its own source of suffering when two people's wounds are too closely mirrored.
