When studying local history reveals painful divides in your group

Our book club chose to study our town's history this year, but three months in we're discovering that some of our families were on opposite sides of major conflicts from decades ago. The more we learn, the more tension there is between us, and I don't know if we should keep going or if this historical work is worth potentially losing these friendships.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Shared inquiry into the past uncovers present relational fractures that threaten the inquiry itself.
