When untrained groups attempt polyvagal study and trigger collective dysregulation

Our book club chose to study polyvagal theory together but every discussion turns into people sharing trauma stories and others getting overwhelmed, and now half the group has stopped coming. We don't have a trained facilitator and I'm realizing we might be in over our heads, but some people are getting a lot out of it and don't want to stop.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Polyvagal material naturally activates nervous systems and requires container-building skills that casual groups rarely possess.
