How research teams navigate conflicting cultural memories

Our research team is documenting oral histories from three different immigrant communities but we keep running into the problem that different community members remember the same events completely differently, and we're starting to argue among ourselves about whose version to trust. Some of us think we should present multiple perspectives while others want to find the 'real' story, and it's creating tension about the whole project.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group is discovering that the pursuit of historical truth becomes complicated when memory itself is culturally shaped and personally lived.
