How to navigate power dynamics in intellectual discussion groups

Three of us started a philosophy reading group last year and we've gotten into this weird dynamic where one person always dominates the discussion, one person barely speaks, and I'm stuck in the middle trying to balance everything instead of actually engaging with the material. We all love the books but the group dynamics are killing the intellectual experience we wanted.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The pursuit of shared learning has been undermined by unexamined social patterns that replicate rather than transcend ordinary conversational hierarchies.
