When siblings disagree about passing down religious traditions to the next generation

My brother and I are both raising kids now and we can't agree on what from our Jewish upbringing to pass down — he thinks I'm cherry-picking the easy parts while abandoning the discipline that actually shaped us, and I think he's clinging to traditions that don't serve anyone. Our kids are cousins and we used to imagine they'd share this foundation but now we're not even sure what that foundation is.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people who share a heritage are discovering they've inherited fundamentally different understandings of what's worth preserving.
