When inherited property divides siblings

My brother and I inherited our grandmother's house together and we both have strong feelings about what should happen to it, but for completely different reasons — he wants to sell because he needs the money and I want to keep it because it's the only place that still feels like family to me. Neither of us can afford to buy the other out, and we're both starting to say things we might not be able to take back.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people are fighting over a house when they're really fighting over what remains of their shared history and their different relationships to family legacy.
