When friend groups split over academic freedom and cancel culture debates

My closest friend group from graduate school is having ongoing arguments about cancel culture and academic freedom that feel like they're really about who we've each become since we left university — some of us went into activism, others into traditional academic careers, and we're discovering that our shared intellectual foundation led us to fundamentally different conclusions about how ideas should be engaged with in the world.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

People who were forged in the same intellectual fire are learning that shared training does not guarantee shared wisdom about how to use it.
