When extended family help with newborns creates tension

My mother-in-law moved in to help with the baby but she keeps taking over in ways that make me feel like I'm failing as a new mom, and my husband doesn't see it because he's grateful for the help. Every time I try to establish my own routine with feeding or soothing, she jumps in with 'let me show you' and I'm starting to feel like a guest in my own experience of becoming a mother.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The need for support collides with the equally vital need to claim your own competence as a new parent.
