When adult children move back home and parents disagree on boundaries

My son moved back in with us after college and it's been eight months now and my wife and I are starting to fight about everything - whether to charge him rent, how much to help with his job search, when it's okay to ask him to clean up after himself. We love him but we also worked hard to get to this stage of our lives and now we feel like we're parenting a teenager again except he's 23.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The return of an adult child to the family home resurrects old parenting disagreements while creating new tensions around autonomy and support.
