When book clubs struggle to balance literary discussion with political reality

Our book club has been meeting for five years and lately every discussion somehow becomes about politics and some people love it and others are clearly uncomfortable and I can feel us losing the literary focus that brought us together. We're all smart thoughtful people but we can't seem to navigate these conversations in a way that works for everyone.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group that found connection through shared curiosity is learning that the stories they read together inevitably reflect the world they live in together, and they haven't developed skills for holding both beauty and conflict.
