When group dynamics become dominated by one person's needs

Our book club has been meeting for two years and it's turned into more of a therapy session where one person dominates the conversation with her personal problems while the rest of us sit there not knowing how to redirect without being mean. We all genuinely care about her but we also miss actually discussing books, and several people have started skipping meetings rather than saying anything.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group is learning the difference between collective care and individual accommodation, and struggling to maintain boundaries without abandoning compassion.
