When community safety efforts reveal deep political divides

Our neighborhood watch group started after some break-ins but now we're split between people who want more police presence and those of us who want community-based solutions. We can barely get through meetings anymore and I'm worried we're going to lose the relationships that made us care about this neighborhood in the first place.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A group that came together out of shared vulnerability is discovering that their different relationships to power and protection are threatening the very connections they were trying to preserve.
