When teens adopt beliefs that conflict with family values

My teenage daughter has started attending a church with her girlfriend's family and she's coming home with ideas about purity and sin that contradict everything we've tried to teach her about self-acceptance and love. My wife thinks we should forbid it but I remember how my parents' religious control backfired and I don't know what the right approach is.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The desire to protect our children from harmful beliefs can become the very authoritarianism we sought to save them from.
