When couples disagree about the intensity of fasting practices

My wife and I started fasting together during Ramadan even though we're not Muslim, just drawn to the practice, and it's become this beautiful thing between us but now she wants to extend it into longer fasts and I'm scared about her health and she thinks I don't understand her spiritual hunger. We're both seeking something sacred but our bodies and fears are pulling us in different directions and I don't know how to honor both her calling and my worry.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Two people discover that their spiritual appetites for deprivation don't match, and love becomes entangled with fear about how far the other should go.
