When secular groups develop spiritual meaning for some members

Our book club has been reading spiritual texts for three years and it's become the most meaningful part of my week, but two members want to switch to fiction and I'm realizing how attached I've become to this being sacred space. The group feels like it's at a crossroads and I don't know how to advocate for what feeds my soul without being selfish.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Sacred space can grow quietly in the most ordinary gatherings, yet its tenderness makes it nearly impossible to defend.
