Our book club started reading spiritual texts together and it's become clear that some of us are actually seeking while others are just intellectually curious, and the conversations have become uncomfortable because we're operating from completely different places of need. The seekers want depth and vulnerability while the academics want analysis and critique, and we're talking past each other every week.
