When congregations face divisive social issues

Our church is trying to decide whether to take a public stance on a controversial issue and the congregation is quietly splitting into camps while the leadership pretends we can find a middle ground that satisfies everyone. I can see we're heading toward a rupture but no one wants to acknowledge that some divisions might be necessary and sacred.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

The attempt to preserve unity at all costs can prevent the kind of truthful reckoning that leads to genuine communion.
