When meditation groups navigate the secular-spiritual boundary

Our meditation group started as a secular mindfulness practice, but several members have been bringing in more explicitly Buddhist concepts and rituals, while others feel like we're moving away from what they signed up for. We all value what we've built together, but we can't seem to talk about the spiritual dimension without some people feeling excluded or pushed toward beliefs they don't hold.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A practice meant to unite becomes a source of division over the nature of the sacred itself.
