When spiritual practice groups develop hierarchy and competition

Our meditation group started as friends supporting each other's practice, but Tom has gotten really serious about it and keeps correcting the rest of us and talking about levels and attainment, and what used to feel like companionship now feels like spiritual comparison and I don't know how to address it without seeming defensive.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A circle of mutual support faces the challenge of how to honor different levels of commitment without losing the equality that made the practice sustainable.
