When faith communities inadvertently discourage mental health treatment

Our small group Bible study has become a place where everyone shares their struggles but when someone mentions therapy or medication, there's this subtle shift where people start talking about 'God's healing' and 'trusting instead of treating' and I can see how it's affecting Sarah who's been battling severe anxiety. We care about each other deeply but we're accidentally creating shame around getting professional help and I don't know how to address it without seeming like I'm attacking people's faith.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

A spiritual community's well-intentioned theology is creating barriers to psychological care, forcing members to choose between belonging and healing.
