When interfaith service teams navigate different spiritual motivations

Three of us from different religious backgrounds started volunteering together at a homeless shelter, and we've discovered we work beautifully as a team but we keep bumping up against questions about whether we're serving for religious reasons, humanitarian reasons, or something else entirely. Our different motivations don't conflict in practice, but they create this underlying tension about why we're really there and what we're trying to accomplish together.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Shared action reveals how different understandings of purpose can both unite and divide.
