When couples disagree on accepting disaster relief due to different relationships with charity

My husband and I are getting help from FEMA and our church after the earthquake, but we can't agree on how much assistance to accept because we both feel weird about charity but for completely different reasons. He thinks we should take everything offered because we earned it through our taxes and community involvement, while I feel like we should only take what we absolutely need so others can have more.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Competing frameworks for understanding reciprocity and desert are creating conflict around the practical decisions needed for recovery.
