When research partners disagree about continuing potentially harmful fieldwork

My research partner and I have been studying the same community for five years, and we're discovering that our presence and funding may have created dependencies that are making people worse off when we're not there. We disagree about whether to continue the research or withdraw completely, and we haven't been able to discuss how much our different career stages affect what we're each willing to sacrifice to do the ethical thing.

More people experience this than they realize.

What we've seen

Collaborators are facing the possibility that their shared intellectual project has become extractive and must navigate how their different professional vulnerabilities shape their ethical calculations.
