How Do I Catch What AI Gets Wrong About My Kids?

You turned to AI because grading and planning eat hours you do not have. That was a reasonable choice, not a failure of character. Then it handed you something generic, or flat wrong, and you felt the sting of having trusted a tool that has never met your students. Here is what you are actually asking: how do you use a fast tool without going soft on the one judgment only you can make — does this fit the child in front of me. That is not a technology question. It is a habit question, and habits are within your power even when the tool is not. No system will do this checking for you. You will, or it will not get done. The real choice in front of you is whether you build a short check into every single use, or skip it on the days you are tired and hope the output happens to be right.

The person already understands the tool fails sometimes; what they need is a repeatable personal check, which is a coached habit more than new information.

What’s really going on

You already caught the real answer: you noticed after it failed, not before. The task is not to catch every error — it is to build one habit. Before you act on any AI output, ask what it could not have known about this specific student. Do that every single time, not just when you remember.

A moveBefore you use any AI plan or grade, say in one sentence what it cannot know about this student or this class.
A moveRead the output twice: once for whether it is accurate, once more only for whether it fits your actual kids.
A moveKeep a running, short list of the specific ways it has failed you before — check new output against that list each time.
A moveIf you are too tired to do the check properly, do not use the output at all. Do less, but do it yourself.
A moveAfter you grade or plan, write down what you had to change. That list, over weeks, shows you exactly where to stop trusting it.

What changes unlock by starting

  • A short, repeatable check you run before trusting any AI plan or grade.
  • Fewer moments where output misses a specific student you know well.
  • A written record, built by you, of where this tool is weak for your classroom.
  • Trust placed where it has earned it, withheld where it has not.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
